Thursday 15th August – Windsurf *** The Manor at Felixstowe – sunny and hot.

Foil – 18.19 knot max , 15.75 knot ave, 9.82 knot hour, 14.51 knot mile, 27.69 km., 12.98 knot alpha.

Starboard Freeride 150 and a Severne 1000 with a Tushingham Storm 5.2.

Lots of wind forecast today, gusting up to 30 knots with sunshine, most heading down to The Manor around one with some going to The Dip too. I headed down to Squiz lane after doing my exercises thinking I would find it hard to park and was surprised there was loads of space, I was tempted to fin but at this point it was a fraction off and fin sailing is so hard on my poor old body so took the easy option by setting up my foil board, sail choice was harder but I took a chance with my 5.2, launching around one. I thought I had rigged too small as I headed out but soon hit the wind line and realized I had rigged too big, 4.7 would have been better at this point but I stuck with and had some fun in the waves, the sea soon picked up pretty big and the gybing was going well. I then felt brave so headed off downwind doing four great runs, foiling downwind is such fun ending up down by Jacobs Ladder and had an interesting beat back as the wind increased so I headed ashore, not helped by some humpty sea fisherman setting up right in the middle of my launching bay, also a popular spot for kids swimming in the sea, I think they should find quieter spots to fish away from people! After a quick snack and with a few sailors now out from further down the beach I decided to head out again, if anything the sea was even bigger with more wind, gusting to 30 knots! I had a few runs out and after dropping in on a couple of gybes and water starting very easily it told me I had way too much sail so headed in. I then had a choice to make, rig my 4.2 or head home to spend some time with the Granddaughter, Maeva won and I headed for home. We then had a great walk along a very breezy prom and Maeva really loved the wind in her her:)
